Ich starte früh und verliere die Zeit später durch Umleitung und Verlaufen. Beides kann immer passieren, ist zum Glück kein Weltuntergang und relativ schnell bemerkt. Heute geht mein Weg hinter dem „Steinwall“ Chesil Beach an der Lagune entlang, die sich „Fleet“ nennt. Es steht ein neuer Rekord bevor: Vollbepackt über 18 Kilometer sollen es werden. Wir müssen ja mal Fahrt aufnehmen. Wenn schon nicht in Höhe, dann wenigstens in Strecke.

Ich laufe die erste Stunde nur an Stacheldraht entlang, wir sind wieder im Militärgebiet. Und dann stehe ich hier, vor diesem Gatter:

Beide Rinder gucken mich mit einem Blick an, der sagt „Wag es nicht“. Ich so „Hallo, ich bin Darina. Ich tue dir nichts. Meinst du, du könntest mich kurz durchlassen?“ Nichts. Das Rinderproblem muss ich noch in den Griff bekommen, allerdings ist mir das hier eine Nummer zu groß und ich drehe um.

Ich mache Mittag, @Steffi: Das links ist übrigens „der Stuhl“ und ich suche schon jetzt bewusst den Schatten. Irgendwann biegt die Route landeinwärts ab und für mich wird es fast unerträglich heiß. Kein Wind, gefühlte 30 Grad und natürlich geht es jetzt noch bergauf.

Unterwegs komme ich an einer Mauer vorbei und ich weiß sofort, hier war ich schon mal!

An diesem Punkt ist mir klar, wenn ich mich an eine einfache Mauer erinnern kann, an der ich vor 7 Jahren zuletzt war, dann muss ich den Teil Penzance nach Lizard Point überspringen, falls ich es überhaupt bis dorthin schaffe. Den Abschnitt bin ich vor 3 Jahren gelaufen und es wäre verplemperte Zeit und Geld, es jetzt nochmal zu machen.

Als ich das sehr kleine, aber wunderschöne Dorf Abbotsbury nach fast 7 Stunden erreiche, habe ich 21 Kilometer auf der Uhr und bin fertig.

Die Möhren zum Mittag nützen übrigens nichts, wenn man sich abends 4 Cider reindonnert 😂 Aber manchmal hat man auch in der Ferne einen Grund zu Feiern.

Diversion (Portland/Ferrybridge to Abbotsbury)

I start early and lose time later with detours and getting lost. Both can always happen, fortunately it’s not the end of the world and is noticed relatively quickly. Today my way goes behind the „stone wall“ Chesil Beach along the lagoon, which is called „Fleet“. A new record is imminent: it should be fully packed over 18 kilometers. We’ve got to get moving. If not in height, then at least in distance.

I only walk along barbed wire for the first hour, we are back in the military area. And then I stand here, in front of this gate:

Both cattle look at me with a look that says „Don’t you dare“. I said, „Hello, I’m Darina. I won’t hurt you Do you think you could let me through for a moment?” Nothing. I still have to get the cattle problem under control, but this is a size too big for me and I turn around.

I’m having lunch, @Steffi: By the way, the one on the left is „the chair“ and I’m already consciously looking for the shade. At some point the route turns inland and it gets almost unbearably hot for me. No wind, felt like 30 degrees and of course it’s still uphill.

On the way I pass a wall and I know immediately, I’ve been here before!

It’s clear to me at this point if I can remember a plain wall I was last on 7 years ago then I’ll have to skip the Penzance part to Lizard Point if I even make it there. I ran that section 3 years ago and it would be a waste of time and money to do it again now.

When I reach the very small but beautiful village of Abbotsbury after almost 7 hours, I have 21 kilometers on the clock and I’m done.

By the way, the carrots for lunch are of no use if you pour yourself 4 ciders in the evening 😂 But sometimes you have a reason to celebrate even when you are far away.
