Wer glaubt, dass man bei Sturm in einem Haus unbedingt besser schläft, irrt. Eine weitere schlaflose Nacht liegt hinter mir.

Ich fahre über Kenmare

ein Stück den Ring of Kerry, eine Art Küsten- und Bergstraße, die für ihre Aussichten berühmt ist.

Nun ja, mit Aussicht ist heute nicht viel. In Killarney will ich zum Wasserfall wandern. Das scheitert leider an einer Parkmöglichkeit. So gehe ich am Ende nur zur den Klosterruinen von Muckross.

Und dann stehe ich im Stau. Kein Bett in Killarney und der Bär los. Pferderennwochenende. Es schüttet und kein Ende in Sicht. Ich beschließe, dass Autofahren noch das beste ist. Am frühen Abend lande ich in Doolin und sehe die höchsten Wellen meines Lebens.

Das ist so atemberaubend. Der erste schöne Campingplatz. Mit Blick auf die Klippen von Moher.

Theoretisch. Von hier wollte ich eigentlich die Fähre auf die Aran-Islands nehmen. Das hat sich erledigt. Ich könnte den ganzen Abend am Hafen stehen und den Wellen zugucken. Wenn man stehen könnte, denn es braucht alle Kraft, sich gegen die Naturgewalt zu stämmen.

Who thinks you should sleep in storm better in a house, doesn’t have to be right. I had another sleepless night.

I drive a bit of the ring of Kerry, which is a coastal hilly road and famous for it’s views. Unfortunately there is not much view today. In Killarney I want to hike to the waterfall, but I don’t get any parking at all. So at the end I just go and see Muckross Abbey. And then I got in a traffic jam. No bed in Killarney and it’s absolutely packed. It’s horse racing festival weekend. It’s pouring rain and no end in sight. I decide that driving is even the best I can do. In the early evening I arrive in Doolin and see the highest waves of my life. That is absolutely breathtaking. The first nice campsite. With a view to the Cliffs of Moher. Theoretical. Acutally I wanted to take the ferry from here to Aran Islands. That is gone now. I could stand in the harbour and watch the waves the whole evening. In case I could stand. You really need all strength to keep yourself standing against the natural force.
